“The Royal Tenenbaums” Review

Indie Ass Shit

After making a delicious Fettuccine Alfredo with some beef chuck, Josh and I with our roommates sat down to watch The Royal Tenenbaums. This review will be kept quite short cause I have to leave in under an hour and also I have very little to say about this movie.

My brother has been telling me to watch this movie for quite some time and, while I can understand why he wanted me to watch it, I don’t think it really surpassed my expectations. It is your standard Indie movie. This is what all the indie kids watch to be like “this is just like my family. And I relate so much to Margo and Rich cause they are such social rejects!” Its a giant pity party but I guess when you look past all the indie its pretty heartfelt. Gene Hackman is so overshadowed by all the other characters but I really enjoyed his and it kept the pace for since the story was about HIM. To end my review I just want to prove my point. I found this link NO LIE as I was searching for pictures 30 seconds ago.

They are so rejected...

“Batman: Arkham Asylum” Review

He is the GODDAMN BATMAN

If Arkham Asylum is a sign of the games I will be playing for the rest of 2010 then it will be a very good year! Its been a while since I have actually beaten a game and it feels me with Jokerish joy to finally beat one and even more so that it was Arkham Asylum. For starters let me tell you that if you are a comic book reader and are a fan of the Batman: YOU MUST PLAY THIS GAME. To me the amount of detail this makers brought to the table was above and beyond the call of duty. The riddler challenge, which simply are a series of enviromental search riddles, are so focused on giving any fan of Batman the fucking orgasm of the ages.

The story is satisfying yet not very complex as far as character development. The Joker is crazy and Batman is the GODDAMN BATMAN. The super villains that make there appearance are cool yet the only real “big” name is the Joker(sorry for all you Scarecrow fans out there). But seeing that a sequel has been announced it evident to see the makers were saving some for later.  To focus specifically on the story though it revolves around Joker taking over Arkham Asylum and Batman taking it back. You thoroughly explore the island of Arkham and each building inside of it.

The game play is very cinematic. When you engage in fights it feels very seem less as if it is all taking place in a cut  scene. The sneak element is also very cool. From lurking over your adversaries on gargoyles to springing from the under a grate to silently take them down. You do almost feel like your the emboodiement of fear as you should when you are the Batman.

What I felt really pulled the game togethor was the voice acting. Mark Hammil as the Joker is FUCKING AWESOME. He, to me, is the quintessential voice of the Joker. He brings such life to him and are excited to hear what he will say next. The same goes for Harley Quins voice actor. Now Kevin Conroy, while he is the voice of Batman, some of his lines just felt dry and not in the good way.

Kevin Conroy = Decent Voice Actor Mark Hamill= AMAZING Voice Actor

Some of the problems that I experienced with the game were the ironically the fighting. As cinematic as they were when you made a mistake, you made a mistake and the illusion was pretty much destroyed. The story itself was also lacking in development as far as characters go. Also, not to give too much away, but the climax was just a little TOO video gamey to me. Just too predictable I guess. But when all these gripes are put against whats so good about this game they sort of take a back seat. Once again if you are a fan you NEED to play this and COMPLETE the Riddler challenges.

Batman: Arkham Asylum(2009) Rating: 8.5 out of 10
